GONE TOO LONG

He drove on away from her

She cried for him, she could swear that she heard,

Her heart as it broke and shattered her whole world apart

She desperately held on to every memory

It took years for her to learn to love without fear

Chorus

I know what you want to hear

A boy and a girl, a love conquers all, a space in time

Conversations full of dreams and goals

Then he moves in and that’s how it begins

But you won’t find that here, you won’t find that here…

They met in a bar by a local hotel

Talked all night until last call

He walked her back to his car

They didn’t make it..it was too damned far

They stopped in and got a room

Time was lost, and morning came too soon

They texted all night till the morning sun

He told her things she’s been dying to hear

He had her heart, and she had his

She moved fast but hoped it would last

She gave her love a few times before

And she couldn’t take it anymore

Give it all away just one more time

Had she found love or did he know

Her crumbled heart was on the fence

So she took one last breath

Chorus

I know what you want to hear

A boy and a girl, a love conquers all, a space in time

Conversations full of dreams and goals

Then he moves in and that’s how it begins

But you won’t find that here, you won’t find that here…

They found love or so they thought

Without each other, they had nothing at all

Time moved on, and they made a home built on love and sacrifice

Where would they be ten years from now?

Only time will tell

Struggling just to stay above a financial hell

Words grew thin, patience was lost, depression set in like a summer fog

He can’t sleep, she won’t talk, and without the baby, they have nothing at all

But could they see past the pain? Could they hold on one more day?

Chorus

I know what you want to hear

A boy and a girl, a love conquers all, a space in time

Conversations full of dreams and goals

Then he moves in and that’s how it begins

But you won’t find that here, you won’t find that here…

Both are hurting from years gone by

Too many fights lost to the night

He would sleep, toss, and turn

She couldn’t see in that dark room

What was going to happen soon?

Consumed by love and fed by fear

Was it enough to keep her here?

Times were tough, and the nights were long

Before too long he stopped coming home

He fell asleep, at a bar with friends, he worked late again

She stopped listening; it was always the same thing

Chorus

I know what you want to hear

A boy and a girl, a love conquers all, a space in time

Conversations full of dreams and goals

Then he moves in and that’s how it begins

But you won’t find that here, you won’t find that here…

Beyond the pain … beyond the tears

She prayed for something, to take her away from here

They both lost love, both lost respect, for each other and themselves.

Eventually he moved on. Away from her

So much time was lost, it just wasted away

Where did he go? How did she fail?

She just wanted to know how it all went wrong.

The road was long, and she hurt; too much

Time was lost on broken trust

But she learned to love again; she had no choice

She stayed up late, tossed, and turned. Worried when he would come back home.

She gave all that she had, one last time, she won’t lose this one

Chorus

I know what you want to hear

A boy and a girl, a love conquers all, a space in time

Conversations full of dreams and goals

Then he moves in and that’s how it begins

But you won’t find that here, you won’t find that here…

Filled with tears, she stood so strong while she waved goodbye

A heavy heart she looked on down the road he was on.

She’s whispered against the wind

Sons come home and don’t be gone too long. Please don’t be gone too long.
